President Jacob Zuma appeared in Parliament for a question and answer session with members of opposition parties on Thursday.
Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip in Parliament, John Steenhuisen spoke to host of the Afternoon Drive on 702, Bongani Bingwa about why his party walked out of Parliament. He says they walked out because it was clear they weren't going to get any answers from President Zuma.
We expect the President to duck and dive out of questions but he was being aided and abetted by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament whose role is to stand up for the institution of Parliament and protecting Members of Parliament.— John Steenhuisen, Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip in Parliament
It made a complete farce of the question session. There's no point putting questions if you're not going to get answers. So we felt it was best to abandon the sitting than to stay and dignify the unbecoming behaviour of the deputy speaker.— John Steenhuisen, Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip in Parliament
