Our relationship with nature during the festive season

With the festive season fast approaching, some people opt to spend time outdoors. Tim talks about all things environmental, from exploring nature reserves to the bird flu and even fireworks.

Tim states that most people don't know what to look for at nature reserves. Open your eyes, get into the mindset of looking for things that should not be there says the nature conservationist.

It’s amazing what you can do looking for birds, looking for flowers, looking for all sorts of things.

Tim Neary, Nature Conservationist

Tim adds that there is currently an increase of bird deaths because of the bird flu. It’s not cats that are killing them but the bird flu says Tim.

We know all about the bird flu when it comes through because obviously it has an effect on the economy of the country and of the farmers and what have you but, we don’t really know yet the extent to the bird flu epidemic as it goes into the wildlife.

Tim Neary, Nature Conservationist

The nature conservationist also took time to share his views on fireworks and the impact they have on wildlife.

I can’t believe that we can’t get fireworks banned out of South Africa correctly. Why do we have them? Why do we need to go through the stress of upsetting people, humans, animals, wildlife and it’s not only our dogs that we’re upsetting. We’re upsetting birds and nesting birds.

Tim Neary, Nature Conservationist
