Cubana Nightclub (and about 90 others) fined for operating after 2 am

Cubana Nightclub in Fourways, Johannesburg faces a fine of R150 000 for selling alcohol after 2 am in the morning.

In August this year, former deputy minister of higher education, Mduduzi Manana admitted to assaulting Mandisa Duma at the Fourways nightclub.

Though Manana resigned, it was during his court case that the Gauteng Liquor Board questioned the former deputy minister of higher education about operating outside of the stipulated hours.

Advocate Fhedzisani Pandelani, Gauteng Liquor Board chairperson, says Cubana isn't the only nightclub fined for non-compliance and adds that to date they have fined close to ninety outlets.

We have stuck with R200 000 as the margin for the fines.

The Liquor Board is supported by the Licensing Board and the Compliance and Enforcement units. The Compliance and Enforcement unit will always go out at random and unannounced periods to check that establishments are complying with the regulations. They are always on the ground.
