South African Breweries (SAB) and AB InBev Africa have introduced the first alcohol-free beer to South Africans.
The new beer is called “Castle Free”.
Producer of the Azania Mosaka show, Jonathan Fairbairn cannot fathom why anyone would want to consume alcohol free beer and jokingly advises they rather drink water or a soft drink.
@Azania_ Agree with Kababzela. Alcohol free beer tastes horrid. Please send me his twitter handle!— Michelle Nel (@MichNel) November 8, 2017
@Azania_ I take Becs because I don't want the alcohol but enjoy the bitter taste. Can't wait for Castle Free!— Baba Ishe (@stanleytavero) November 8, 2017
I am all for the alcohol-free beer. I love beer and how it tastes but at times I feel the alcohol percentage is too high on some beers.— Terrence, caller
I participated in 'Ocsober' and found myself craving beer. I then tried alcohol-free beer and I loved it, it was delightful. I'm definitely for even though I love a cold draught.— TC, caller
I think the alcohol free beer will come in handy this festive season. Imagine me driving and being stopped by cops, I'd confidently ask them to hold my alcohol free beer while i get my license.— Charles, caller
During the open line discussion, Vaughan Croeser, Brand Director for Castle Lager and Castle Free at South African Breweries phoned in to the show. He says the response to their Castle Free beer has been incredible while there are still those who cannot fully grasp the need for an alcohol free beer.
Castle has always been about sociability and bringing South Africans together - that is the brands purpose says Croeser.
We are absolutely committed to driving a culture of moderation. We want every single experience with a beer to a positive one. Castle Free will be introducing pacer packs that will be sold with the regular castle to encourage consumers to the castle free in between the normal beer.— Vaughan Croeser, Brand Director for Castle Lager and Castle Free at South African Breweries
