Traffic officer delivers baby on N2 highway

Senior City of Cape Town Traffic Officer Amanda Fojo assisted a pregnant mom to deliver a baby on the N2 on Friday morning.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Fojo says she was in the process of issuing a taxi with a traffic fine when the car stopped and asked her to help them get to the hospital quickly. A trained midwife, she realised and there was no time to lose because she assessed the woman was about to give birth at anytime.

With her training in first aid and midwifery, she helped deliver a healthy baby boy.

Fojo laughed and said it was the first time she had been thanked in her twelve years on the job.

Kieno Kammies spoke to Dr Saadiqa Allie from Mowbray Maternity Hospital, who gave an update on the status of mom and baby.

The baby and mom are doing really good after being delivered on the highway in the car.
