The podcast feature is the brainchild of writer and radio journalist, Paul McNally who says that he started the podcast as a way to entice people who read the news, but didn't see science events as news.

We wanted to bring current events together with a range of different science disciplines. So the show uses an event or news incident as a jumping off point.

Paul McNally

Each podcast goes through an intense research and production process before it ever makes it onto the internet, the team has a pool of science stories, discoveries, thoughts, facts and experts that they pull from every week depending on what's happening in current affairs.

This year The Science Inside picked up two awards at the MTN Radio Awards in April - best campus/community presenter and best campus/community show! The show has also been nominated for a Discovery Health Award in radio broadcasting.

This unique podcast offering is brought to you by a team of 4 young people: Paul McNally , who was driven to create the show by his love of fluid narrative radio is the core anchor; McNally's co-presenter is Lutfiyah Suliman; Elna Schutz produces the show and the man who makes sure that we recieve the final product is technical producer, DJ Keyez.

McNally explains that "the majority of people aren’t interested [in science] and as a result science journalism can often come across as elitist. We are trying to find the ways that can connect listeners who don’t care about science with stories that will interest them".

Some of their most interesting stories have included: a show about the rats in Alex township and if they are really as big as the rumours say; an entire show dedicated to trying to find flight MH370 and when rapper Flabba died the show covered how to survive a stab to the heart.

Look out for The Science Inside every Saturday morning as the team brings you something fresh and sometimes quirky.
