Black Friday is around the corner and consumer journalist Wendy Knowler says it's important to be prepared and cautious.

Black Friday is around the corner and consumer journalist Wendy Knowler says it is important to be prepared.

Consumers are not guaranteed the right of return on non-defective purchases (i.e. if there is nothing wrong with the item).

However, if a product bought during the Black Friday promotion is defective or faulty, consumers are entitled to return the item - no matter what discounted price it was bought at.

This is just another retail day, normal rules apply.

Knowler has also warned consumers to be aware of fake sites and scammers over the Black Friday period.

She explains that Black Friday took off in South Africa with online retailers in 2011 in grew significantly in 2014 onwards.

It wasn't until 2015 that significant numbers of South Africans got swept up in the whole Black Friday frenzy.
