The people of Zimbabwe are ecstatic at the news of Robert Mugabe's resignation after ruling for 37 years.
Tendai Biti, former Zimbabwe finance minister and leader of the People's Democratic Party says the moment feels surreal, especially since they have been fighting for this for so long.
We've spent the whole of out lives fighting Mr Mugabe, we've spent the whole of out lives living under a terrible, territory dictatorship, so to think that it actually happened, and happened in this manner without loss of life is a miracle.— Tendai Biti, Leader of the People's Democratic Party
Biti acknowledges that tomorrow, the realities of the situation will hit. He says that the realities of the transition of power will have to be dealt with.
But tonight, Biti says it's time for the people to celebrate what he calls a short revolution.
Tonight God must allow us to abide to be happy to forget about everything. But tomorrow we know we'll be first with the stark realities of the obligation to reconstruct our country.— Tendai Biti, Leader of the People's Democratic Party
