With less than 30 days to go to the ANC national elective conference, the ruling party has extended the deadline once again, for the party’s branches to finish their meetings and submit nominations for the leadership race.
Political Analyst Lukhona Mnguni says that there could be many reasons for this, but they are all linked to many factions in the party wanting a chance to gain power. Mnguni says this make it impossible for the administrators of the ANC to seem impartial to all factions.
With there being a lot of interest groups, a lot of pressure is placed on the secretary to ensure as many branches as possible get an opportunity to nominate.— Lukhona Mnguni, Political Analyst
Mnguni adds that ANC may also trying to eliminate issues surrounding the number of branches, people attending meeting and accusations that things are not done properly.
The ANC have learnt over time that if you don't do this properly, it opens you up to a court challenge on irregularity of processes or injustice to those who were not given an opportunity.— Lukhona Mnguni, Political Analyst
