Zuma appoints "career policeman" for top job

President Zuma has appointed General Khehla Sitole as National Commissioner of the South African Police Service.

EWN Reporter Mandy Wiener has been researching the background of the new police commissioner and in an interview with Stephen Grrotes, had this to say:

I’ve been speaking to some high-ranking police officers who’ve worked with him. They’ve been saying he’s very good on the operational stuff. He’s good in terms of procedure and that he knows how to police.

Mandy Wiener, EWN reporter

The most surprising and important thing is that Sitole has a career in the police says Wiener. That’s crucial because you need have operational experience to stabilize the police and earn their respect, she added.

His been in the police since 1986, when he started as a student constable.
