City of CT launches water dashboard to track water crisis

The prediction for Day Zero may have been pushed back to 13 May 2018, but the City of Cape Town is still working on contingency plans should the dams run dry in the Western Cape.

To help communicate these plans, the City’s Executive Mayor, Patricia de Lille, launched the water dashboard to help the public keep track of the water situation and the plans surrounding it.

EWN reporter Monique Mortlock says people can log on to the city's website or their social media platforms to access the water dashboard. You can get a weekly update on the city's augmentation plan progress, dam levels and Cape Town's residence collective consumption.

You'll be able to see where the City is in terms of reach that target that the CIty setof 500 million litres per day.

Mortlock reports that De Lille says a water dashboard is first and foremost a tool for being transparent about what the City is doing in response to the drought.

She adds that there is an added benefit in helping change consumption behaviour, educatepeople as to why they have to save water and show that the City is serious about the realities facing the province with regards to water shortages.

De Lille and her team are hoping it will urge those who aren't saving or who are still not fully realising how serious the situation is, for them to realise the enormity of the situation and that all Cape Town residents need to play a part.
