Today ANC Youth League member Sthembiso Mhlongo was gunned down in his Howick home by unknown suspects.
This comes days after the assassination of ANC's 34-year-old Lungisani Mnguni on Monday. They were both members of the Moses Mabhida Region.
With a spree of political killing in the province, the motives behind the deaths of Mhlongo and Mnguni is still uncertain. EWN Reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo says these killings have been strange in terms of why these men were killed.
She adds there are two theories surrounding the murders.
Some people believe that this might be linked to the fact that apparently Lungisani was in support of Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, despite the Moses Mabhida Region throwing Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma into the hat and nominating her to become president.— Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN Reporter
Then there's another school of thought that belives this is all linked to the school's nutrition programme, in which Lungisani was actually delivering food to schools.— Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN Reporter
Ngcobo says that the reason the school's nutrition programme may be a motive, is because the Moerane Commission of Inquiry has shown the main motive being political killings in KZN have been attruibuted to resources and tenders.
Ngcobo says at this point is it understood that the school's nutrition programme received a lot of funding. However, these theories do not fit into why Mhlongo was killed.
There's no evidence or indicators that point to [Mhlongo's death] either about him being Pro Cyril Ramaphosa or it being about the school's nutrition programme.— Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN Reporter
Ngcobo adds that it is alarming that Mhlongo was present at the crime scene of Moerane's death on Monday and day later he met the same fate.
