[LISTEN] 'ANC politics is simply out of date'

Political analyst Karima Brown says the seven candidates competing for the top leadership in the African National Congress (ANC) may need to do more to communicate their vision for the renewal of the ruling party.

Reflecting on her interview with national chair of the African National Congress (ANC) Baleka Mbete as well as some of the remaining leaders, Brown says the group of candidates have been short on detail vision and policy.

They need to tell us how they plan to take the ANC back to its core base. We do expect them to get out under the collective leadership from which they always operate and say I, Baleka Mbete, I, Lindiwe Sisulu plan to do the following.

We cannot have ANC leaders put their hands up to lead the organisation then we don't now what their stance on corruption, gender based violence, party political funding is. These are key issues that related to whether or not the ANC re-calibrates itself.

Brown says an inability by candidates to engage with issues of rape culture displays a leadership that is out of touch.

They are basically at sea. The truth of the matter is their politics is simply out of date.
