[LISTEN] Claims of evidence leader bribed to quit state capture inquiry

At the centre of the discussion around The State of Capture Report, is Parliament's ability to investigate and hold executives accountable for their actions, and it appears to be getting harder with each passing day.

On 702's Afternoon Drive, Bongani talks to EWN reporter Rahima Essop about the challenges MPs face and the hurdles they need to go through.

President Zuma has challenged former public protector, Thuli Madonsela’s remedial action, which compels him to appoint a Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.

From the onset, the DA was lobbying for an ad hoc committee to investigate state capture, arguing that it made more sense says Essop.

She adds that MPs serving in the Public Enterprises Portfolio Committees, have shown a unity of purpose and determination, but the other committees have not acted with the same haste.

The Mineral Resources Portfolio Committee, for example, now says that it will meet tomorrow to decide on how to deal with state capture.

Essop says that what’s been happening behind the scenes has been very worrying.

Rantho's son was apparently approached by some unknown people and he was told that his mother is causing problems.

In addition to that, the evidence leader has submitted an affidavit explaining that he was approached by the State Security Minister who allegedly attempted to bribe him to resign by offering him a blank cheque.
