[Are people more scared of running out water, or the ANC’s elective conference?] Definitely the December conference!

A convention centre is a large building that is designed as a venue for conferences.

A conference is a meeting to discuss or engage in a common interest.

Conferences are usually based on an industry, profession or fandom.

South Africa is a popular destination for business travellers, who spend on average three times more than their leisure counterparts, according to Brand South Africa.

The country has more than 1000 world-class conference and exhibition venues.

In 2015, business travellers spent R42 billion in South Africa while the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) sector created 280 000 jobs, according to former Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) CEO Julie-May Ellingson for his weekly “The Science Of” feature.
