Mapaila: SACP going head-to-head with ANC in election is history in the making

A historical moment for South Africa is knocking on our doorstep.

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela talks to Ray White on The Midday Report about the by-election in the Metsimaholo Municipality in the Free State on Wednesday.

The SACP will, for the first time, go up against its alliance party the ANC and other parties.

Manyathela says that these elections come after the local municipality coalition government was dissolved in July.

He adds that that SACP leader Solly Mapaila says it is history in the making.

Mapaila feels that this is something that has to be done as the community asked the SACP to stand for elections against the ANC, reports Manyathela.

The ANC tried to convince the SACP otherwise, but it seems they failed at that.

Some branches decided not to attend the conference because they claimed that there were irregularities with the Free State ANC leadership.

There are some ANC members in the Free State who went to court and weren’t satisfied with the processes leading up to the elective conference.
