Bribery on the rise in South Africa - survey

The Citizens' Bribery Survey 2017 shows that bribery is on the increase in South Africa.

Head researcher of the Citizens’ Bribery Survey, Kris Dobie says they sampled about 5 000 people and asked them basic questions about their experiences of bribery.

He says 37% of respondents knew someone who had been asked for a bribe in the past year. In 2015 the same figures were 26%, meaning the numbers increased significantly.

They were asked if the bribe was paid and about 27% said yes they knew someone who paid for a bribe and in 2015 that was sitting at 20%.
