Dropula helps Cape schools save water this summer holiday

The Western Cape has 1 672 schools in 137 cities and towns. In order to help these schools save millions of litres of water every month, the Shoprite Group launched the Smart Water Meter Challenge.

In the past school holidays were a time that water leaks would spring up and go unnoticed. But the Dropula device installed in hundreds of schools as part of the #SmartWaterMeterChallenge will help prevent school holiday water leaks.

Engineer Thinus Booysen advises schools and businesses closing for the holiday season, to close the main valves to the water supply in order to save water while the province is going through severe water problems.

By doing that, Booysen says if a pipe should burst or spring a leak in a building, water will not be wasted.

Check out the #SmartWaterMeterChallenge Schools Water website for more info.

With over 325 schools sponsored so far, the campaign will resume at the end of January once schools are back in full swing. We will keep you posted when it is time to get those donations streaming in again.
