MiWayLife CEO Craig Baker has responded to claims by its MiWayLife call center operators who say they are being forced to work overtime without pay, leading to late night shifts.
Stephen Grootes received an email in which an employee said they have been working 8am to 8pm shift for 35 days straight and no overtime has been paid. The employee who chose to stay anonymous wrote:
"If you decide to knock off at 5 you get a warning. 10 people have been mugged due to leaving work late from MiwayLife and the company still doesn't offer transport. One lady at gunpoint and still no counseling has been offered by the company and the next day they expected her to work."
Baker explained, however, an incentive was paid to those who worked long hours.
80% of our staff earn their money through incentives and we know November and December are very long months. We set ourselves a very big target for November and we agreed with the guys that we are going to push hard for the month and that required us hitting targets.— Craig Baker, MiWayLife CEO
In fairness to all the people that have called in, I think that for all but four days we pretty much did work 8 to 8. It was done with a very specific goal in mind to actually try and boost the guys earnings because as opposed to paying overtime we gave additional incentives.— Craig Baker, MiWayLife CEO

He has confirmed that some employees have been mugged and alternatives were sought but then abused by staff.
We did try to organise some Ubers for some guys and found a little bit of abuse where they'd take the Uber to go out in the town for the evening.— Craig Baker, MiWayLife CEO
