Wonder is a 2017 American drama film that's based on the 2012 novel by R.J. Palacio. The film stars Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay. The movie follows the life of a child with Treacher Collins Syndrome and his attempts to fit in. It’s a lovely movie that all families should watch and use as a learning tool says film critic, Gayle Edmunds.
Edmunds says that the writer R.J. Palacio based the novel on her experiences. The author saw how her children reacted to a child with the syndrome and imagined how the child’s life was like she adds.
It's quite a harrowing experience for a child whose had 25 facial surgeries to make him look normal - to help him see and hear.
— Gayle Edmunds, film critic
As one of the teachers in the movie says, if you have the choice to be right or kind – be kind says Edmunds.
The story is very cleverly told because it’s not just one perspective.
— Gayle Edmunds, film critic
