It has evidence that EU countries are providing support to Libyan coast guards actively complicit in sale and abuse of refugees.

The human rights group Amnesty International has accused European Union countries of being complicit in the selling of migrants in Libya.

Africa Director at Amnesty International, Netsanet Belay says they have evidence that EU member states having full knowledge of the abuse of migrants but still supporting Libyan coast guards.

Our evidence clearly shows that agreements entered between Libyan authorities, specifically the support provided to Libyan coast guards and detention centres, is actually directly and actively facilitating these abuses.

Netsanet Belay, Africa Director at Amnesty International

And we also have evidence where the Libyan coast guard is actively complicit and colluding with smugglers and criminals in facilitating the sell and extortion of refugees and migrants.

Netsanet Belay, Africa Director at Amnesty International
