France has reportedly offered the Western Cape assistance with its water crisis and finding new ways to stabilise the water supply in the area.
The Western Cape is suffering from the worst drought in 100 years, as dam levels continue to drop.
Mayco member for Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services, Cllr Xanthea Limberg, says the City has been approached by other countries in the world, who also experienced drought at some point, to assist in the form of knowledge sharing and finances.
There are no formal agreements that have been signed. As we explore the entire scope of a partnership that will be formalised in a memorandum of understanding— Cllr Xanthea Limberg, Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services; Energy
If there is financial assistance offered, there would have to be formal contracts in place on how the financing and the repayments would work.— Cllr Xanthea Limberg, Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services; Energy
Limberg says the City is looking forward to learning from France on how they have incorporated new technologies to tap into alternative water sources.
