There has been a roller coaster of predictions leading up to the ANC’s 54th National Conference and the race has been a tight one.

During an interview on The Karima Brown Show on 702 Ramaphosa said for the first time that while he respected the court process, he would believe Fezeka Kuzwayo, also known as Khwezi, was raped.

Yes, I would believe Khwezi was raped.

Cyril Ramaphosa

Background

In 1972, he joined the South African Students Organization (Sasa) and served as a branch chair.

He was detained for 11 months by security police and after his release, he joined the Black People’ Convention (BPC).

Ramaphosa also served as chairman of the National Reception committee that coordinated arrangements for the release of former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

Ramaphosa was a non-executive board member of a mining company Lonmin. In August 2012, Lonmin was involved in an unprotected strike that left 34 mine workers dead at the hands of the police. In December of the same year Ramaphosa was elected as the Deputy President of the ANC.

The following year he resigned from his post at Lonmin and in 2015, the Marikana Commission of Inquiry cleared Ramaphosa of any accountability related to the events that unfolded on that day.
