Conference has signaled a total capture of Luthuli House - Zwelinzima Vavi

Secretary General of the South African Federation of Trade Unions, Zwelinzima Vavi says the African National Congress has lost an opportunity to communicate hope to the working class, middle class and unemployed youth.

Vavi has reacted to the top six elected at the ANC national conference on Monday evening.

The group consists of members from both the NDZ and CR17 slates.

David Mabuza has been elected deputy president while Gwede Mantashe is the new national chairperson having obtained 2,418 votes.

Ace Magashule will serve as secretary-general and Jessie Duarte as deputy secretary general.

Paul Mashatile is the party's new treasurer general.

Vavi says the ANC has elected individuals who are the cause of State Capture.

Our people are disillusioned as a result of the real and perceived corruption inside the ANC, the state capture, the Guptarisation, the collapse of state owned enterprises...

Zwelinzima Vavi, Secretary General of SAFTU

Now what does the ANC do? It elects key individuals who are seen by the working class and the middle strata as the cause in that agenda to capture the state. I think that the 20 million people who didn't vote for the ANC but did not vote for any other party in 2016, will not be convinced that this is a new direction.

Zwelinzima Vavi, Secretary General of SAFTU

Meanwhile Federation of Unions of South Africa's Dennis George say President Jacob Zuma's days are numbered.

The man is destroyed, he knows that his days are numbered.

Dennis George, Fedusa General Secretary

The ANC is the ANC, it consists of a broad school - unions, businesses, civil society,so the factions are a natural phenomena.

Dennis George, Fedusa General Secretary

He says Cyril Ramaphosa must make good on the promises he made as well as implementing a commission of inquiry into state capture.

He has got a number of opportunity, number one the closing statement of this conference will give us an indication of where he is going to. Number two is the January 8 statement...
