ANC 2017 Elective Conference

Ramaphosa's appointment is a step forward - Barbara Hogan

Former African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee member Barbara Hogan says Cyril Ramaphosa's appointment as the party's president is a step forward.

Ramaphosa won the election by 2 440 votes on Monday.

Cyril now as the president is a major change for the organisation and for the country.

Barbara Hogan, former ANC NEC member

He is supported by some very powerful people, Gwede Mantashe, we know how skilled he is at working the party and Paul Mashatile. I certainly believe this is the first kind of move forward to bring this country back to the best that it can be.

Barbara Hogan, former ANC NEC member

Responding to the Women's League's comments over the newly elected top six, Hogan says it is laughable.

Did they vote for Lindiwe Sisulu? No. They factionalised themselves. They allowed themselves to be bought into a particular faction of the ANC that is extremely patriarchal.

With the present style of leadership, taking the president's bidding, with this present leadership, I do not see women being advanced.
