ANC resolves to decriminalise sex work

The African National Congress has resolved to decriminalise sex work.

This decision has been welcomed by Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT).

Nosipho Vidima, Human Rights and lobbying officer at SWEAT says that in other countries that have decriminalised sex work shows, it creates a safer environment for people in the trade.

It reduces HIV transmissions, it reduces violence against sex workers, it reduces the cost that we have right now of policing sex work It basically means that you'll have sex workers that are working in an environment that is safer.

Vidima says that if sex work is decriminalised, it will mean proper labour law will be put in place to protect sex workers.
