Noose tightens around De Lille as report on City corruption cover-up emerges

Cape Town Mayor Patrica de Lille has been implicated in blatant cover-ups of corruption, according to an independent probe commissioned by City Council.

EWN has seen a report by law firm Bowman Gilfillan which blows the lid on alleged tender corruption involving the City’s Transport Commissioner Melissa Whitehead.

City councillors have been locked in a meeting behind closed doors to consider the report into corruption claims made by De Lille’s top aide, Craig Kesson.

The report recommends that De Lille and other politicians such as councillor Brett Herron be further investigated for misconduct, reports EWN's Lindsay Dentlinger.

In a separate matter, De Lille has been given until Friday 5 January to provide reasons to the DA why she should retain her job as mayor.

She is also set to face a motion of no confidence from the opposition later in January into her fitness to hold office.

This is the first step that could set the ball rolling for Patricia de Lille's removal as the City of Cape Town mayor.
