Dignity Dreams is providing comfort and hope with their washable, reusable pads

Dignity Dreams provides comfort and menstrual health education to young women and girls from disadvantaged and at-risk communities.

They manufacture and distribute washable sanitary wear to young girls and women, ensuring that entering womanhood is a time of joy and celebration rather than a time of shame and pain.

Founded in 2013 by the late Sandra Millar, Dignity Dreams was registered as a NGO and has grown from strength to strength. Their current CEO, Sharon Gordon speaks about the initiative which is changing the lives of women across the country.

Gordon says that Dignity Dreams started out slow because nobody spoke about menstrual health, she adds that it was seen as a huge taboo. The founder, Sandra Millar ensured that it was a legitimate subject to talk about and deal with says Gordon.

The more we spoke about it, the more we discussed it and the more we investigated it, the more we realised how big the problem actually is.

The notion that girls don’t girl to school because they are on their period is ridiculous says Gordan. Women are extremely resilient and always find a way to make a plan she adds.

Gordon says that Dignity Dreams provides washable, reusable pads that last about 4 years.

Last year 2017, we distributed 25 000 packs.

This number grows every year and so far, we have distributed 100 000 packs in 5 years says Gordan. She adds that the donors choose where the pads are distributed.
