[LISTEN] 'The Department of Health has never retrenched anybody' - Motsoaledi

The 702 Breakfast Show has received queries about alleged retrenchments at the National Health Insurance (NHI), as well as contractual issues surrounding internships.

Ray White spoke to Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to get answers.

Motsoaledi says there have been no retrenchments linked to the department of health.

The Department of Health has never retrenched anybody. There is no department in the whole public service that will ever be allowed to retrench people because retrenchment is always discussed in the public service bargaining chamber with unions.

Aaron Motsoaledi, health minister

We wrote them letters to make it clear that what we are doing for them [interns] is temporary. I personally would be happy if one province comes up and says I think these people are doing a marvelous job I have got space for them, but they must not claim they are being retrenched.

Aaron Motsoaledi, health minister
