The City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement department has been enforcing the various bylaws related to water abuse, which includes the washing of vehicles using municipal drinking water.
Director of Law Enforcement, Robbie Roberts says the integrated law enforcement focuses on all areas, whether rich or poor, where municipal water abuse is occurring.

We are looking at people watering their gardens, illegal car washes and complaints from people regarding the misuse and abuse of water.— Robbie Roberts, Director of Law Enforcement
According to Roberts, the water abusers receive a fine in terms of Section 56 where they will be required to pay a fine of between R500 up to R3000 or appear in court.
