Why you should think twice about stockpiling bottled water

Are you stockpiling bottled water for when the taps run dry?

Best you check where your bottled water is coming from, says writer, blogger and editor Helen Moffett.

Moffett has warned that many bottled water companies and water refilling shops are using water from the municipal supply.

She explains that purchasing such water equates to daily water consumption, which is currently being restricted in Cape Town.

Check where your bottled water is coming from. You'll be shocked at the amount of it that's plain tap water.

Helen Moffett, writer, blogger and editor

It's treated and bottled and sold, but it's tap water. In other words, it's coming from the municipal supply.

Helen Moffett, writer, blogger and editor

Bear in mind that if you buy 50 litres of bottled water, and the source is tap water, that's your daily ration done; gone.

Helen Moffett, writer, blogger and editor

Try buying bottled from sources that are not from sources in water-stressed regions. Try buying from sources outside of Western Cape. Do your homework.
