The City of Cape Town's JP Smith says 'Day Zero' can be pushed back if residents use water sparingly.
When Day Zero arrives on 12 April people will have to queue in line for 25 litres of water per person per day.
Day Zero can be avoided, if all residents use 50 litres of water or less for the next 150 days, Smith explains.
According to Smith, city officials will update residents every Sunday on the trajectory of Day Zero.
We could potentially be able to extend the date. Day Zero is not a foregone conclusion. It's not definitive fact.— JP Smith, MayCo Member for Safety and Security
Day Zero is avoidable. If we save now, we can prevent ourselves from queuing.— JP Smith, MayCo Member for Safety and Security
