New Beginnings: A walk along the coast with Tequila

On "New Beginnings" this week we chatted to a man who is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime as he sets off to walk the coastline of South Africa, accompanied by his dog, Tequila. Alan Menteath has quit his job, given up his home and sold many of his belongings.

Alan Menteath will embark on his 2800 kilometres journey on 1 June which will take 10 months. The journey starts at Kosi bay in the Maputaland area of KwaZulu-Natal and follows the coast all the way to the Namibian border in Alexander Bay.

Tequila's story

Tequila is about four years old. She was originally my son's choice of dog and I took over the dog as normally happens when a teenage boys loses interest. Basically she’s become an absolute best friend of mine in a true sense of the word. She had an operation about two weeks ago to remove a growth on her leg … She a terrier, I’d say 80 percent pit-bull… She’s going to be my protection.
