Zuma's future as head of state hangs in the balance

At a media briefing in Luthuli House, African National Congress (ANC) deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte said Jacob Zuma's fate as head of state were discussed by the party's National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday.

This is according to EWN reporter Clement Manyathela.

Manyathela says Duarte was clarifying what led to the NWC convening on Monday which resulted in a decision to hold a special NEC meeting on Wednesday.

She spoke a lot about the logistics in case the NEC does take a decision to recall Jacob Zuma.

She also spoke about the ANC leaders and the fact that they are speaking in different voices. She says they have passed that point of speaking in different voices and they are rallying behind whatever decision taken by the NWC and the position of the NEC.

According to Manyathela, Duarte says the special NEC meeting is to provide clarity on the issue that is causing instability in the country - President Jacob Zuma's removal.

Duarte says that she will not speculate on what the outcomes of the NEC meeting will be or whether President Zuma will be recalled or not.

There will be a media briefing on Wednesday to inform the nation on the decisions the party has been taken.
