Accused wife killer Jason Rohde fails to appear in court for the second day

Accused wife killer Jason Rohde has failed to appear in the High Court in Cape Town for the second day.

The trial was scheduled to resume on Monday with his mental state under scrutiny.

His defense team has informed the courts that Rhode has been hospitalised.

Judge Gayaat Salie-Hlophe has ordered that an inquiry is conducted into Rhode's mental state.

Eyewitness News reporter Shamiela Fisher has more on the story.

(The judge) believes that not all the facts have been presented before the courts.

She wants the psychiatrist who is treating Jason Rohde at this undisclosed facility to come and inform the court as to why he cannot be present at court for proceedings to continue - and she needs to share exactly what is wrong with him, in order for him to remain absent for the duration of the proceedings.
