Sunday predicted as D-Day for Zuma's exit

ANC's top officials that were expected to attend events building up to the Nelson Mandela centenary launch in Cape Town have pulled out at the last moment due to "urgent matters" back in Gauteng.

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says they were informed four hours after the programme was due to start that the events were cancelled.

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa withdrew from the event programme on Thursday to continue his talks with President Jacob Zuma to persuade him to step down.

President Jacob Zuma also pulled out of this Saturday’s Ubuntu Awards that he was supposed to officiate.

I suppose that's one indication that the ANC really wants to finalise talks with President Zuma this week.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

The speculation is by Sunday we may have an idea or clarity around this issue. Many are hoping that when Cyril Ramaphosa addresses the big rally on Sunday he will use the opportunity to say to the nation and investors to say 'all will be well' and this is the decision we took regarding President Zuma'.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

The story is moving too fast. The ANC is really trying to finalise talks before Sunday becasue how do you as the ANC president get on stage at the ANC's big rally and there's still no clarity around this issue and you don't offer any explanations between Ramaphosa and Zuma.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
