Big on comfort food? Advice on how to quit emotional eating

Many people have a complicated relationship with food.

Eating can very often be a mental and emotional act, explains clinical nutritional therapist Nicci Robertson.

She advises that food is the most socially acceptable drug, often used to temporarily subdue anxiousness or depression.

According to Robertson, our behaviours, attitudes and values towards food need to change in order to develop healthy habits.

She suggests that preparing food and planning meals in advance is a key component to starting healthy habits.

Robertson says the diet industry has demonised food, when in fact nourishing food should be viewed as pleasurable.

It's not about the calories. It's about the quality of the food and having awareness about why you are eating.

Food is a pleasure. We should indulge in good food, not convenience food, processed or food that we don't how was made.
