'Boreholes have no major impact on groundwater resources'

I strongly support the sinking of your own borehole… I have yet to hear of any major impact on groundwater resources… I’m very relaxed about… I wish it got used more by the Cape Town municipality…

Globally, the sale of bottled water increased dramatically over the past decade.

By one estimate, people consume around 200 billion bottles of water per year.

The bottled water industry, however, is not without controversy.

Consumers believe, often falsely, that bottled water is safer to drink than tap water.

The environmental impact, container safety and unease about the origin of water is of concern to many people.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed South African National Bottled Water Association (Sanbwa) Chairperson John Weaver for his weekly “The Science Of” feature.

Sanbwa has a membership list which includes Bonaqua, Valpré and Clover Waters: Nestle Pure Life.

Some Sanbwa members are donating water to drought ravaged Cape Town.

Weaver says the industry has remained during the crisis as 90% of its water comes from renewable groundwater sources.
