ANC caucus to use no-confidence bid to vote Zuma out, if he doesn't resign today

ANC treasurer general Paul Mashatile says Wednesday is the deadline for President Jacob Zuma to leave office.

Parliament’s ANC caucus met to discuss the national executive committee’s (NEC) decision to recall President Zuma.

ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu says if Zuma does not resign today, the ANC parliamentary caucus has agreed to go ahead with a motion of no confidence against him.

Mthembu says the ANC would have preferred to table their own motion, but the rules allow for the ANC to make amendments to the EFF motion and join the existing no-confidence bid.

Mthembu says it is highly possible that a new president may be elected tomorrow, making provisions for the State of the Nation Address (Sona) to take place on Friday 16 February.

He says the Sona debate could take place on Monday, with the new president responding on Tuesday, and the 2018 National Budget Speech thereafter.
