New President to be sworn in

African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu says a new president will be sworn in by Thursday afternoon.

Parliament is set to elect a new president with deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa put forward as a nominee.

Parliament will now elect a new president and we will put forward the name of the ANC President as nominee for the president of the republic this afternoon in the national assembly.

We had planned for this election of the new president for tomorrow in the national assembly, but we will have an opportunity this afternoon in the NA, to elect a new president so that tomorrow evening we are then able to receive a state of the nation address from the new president.
