Warrior on Wheels aims to give disabled kids adventure experiences says founder
The Warrior on Wheels Foundation aims to promote universal access in tourism and sporting events, while giving the gift of adventure to some brave children who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity of participating in an event of this nature.
On Sunday 11 March, nine differently-abled children, ranging from 8 to 20 years old, with varying disabilities will share in the spirit and camaraderie of the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour which is towed by able-bodied cyclist’s in specially manufactured buggies.
Founder of Warrior on Wheels Deirdré Gower joined #WeekendBreakfast host Africa Melane to chat about the goal of the initiative, and anticipation leading up to the event.
Our family has grown over the past few years, and there’re a lot more children who participate in adventures with us says Gower. She adds that now these children have the opportunity to participate in the cycle tour.
Warrior on Wheels was launched in 2015 with the aim of giving children with disabilities adventure experiences.

Last year we had 4 buggies participating, and this year with the generous donation of some of our sponsors we have 9 teams participating.
