Police say Gupta reward may hamper investigations

As it's revealed the money being offered for information on the Estina Dairy Farm 'fugitives' has reached nearly a million rand, police are distancing themselves from the reward.

More than 1 million rand is being put up by NPO Forensics for Justice, Signia CEO Magda Wierzycka and other private entities.

But the Police Ministry say it's concerned the offer of a reward may get in the way of its investigation.

We think that this case might be jeopardized. You might actually endanger the suspect, you might endanger the look alike of the suspect, even members of the public.

Vuyo Mhaga, Ministry of Police, spokesperson

Police have got their own procedures of actually how they offer rewards or not offering rewards and in this case we don't think the offering of rewards will assist us with where we want to get to.

Vuyo Mhaga, Ministry of Police, spokesperson

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has confirmed that the search for Ajay Gupta and his associates has widened to India, China and Dubai.

It's believed Ajay Gupta left the country shortly before a Hawks raid on his family compound last week.

A number of Gupta family allies were arrested in connection with the Estina Dairy Farm scandal.
