City of Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba has refuted claims that he contracted his wife Connie Mahsaba's company Lephatsi Financial Services to help with the in-sourcing of security for the city, and says rather, that he consulted a friend over this issue, at no cost to the city.
ANC Gauteng spokesperson Jolidee Mathonga spoke to Ray White on The Midday Report about its concerns.
He says the ANC does not take issue with in-sourcing, but it must be done within the law and questions the mayor's commitment to transparency.
The mayor should have issued an advertisement explaining he wanted to in-source security guards but lacked the finances for the financial modeling of the project, adds Mathonga.
This is a public institution, it's not run with relationships of 'I will get my friend to come and do it for free.' All we are saying is that he should have issued a public advert.— Jolidee Mathonga, Spokesperson ANC Gauteng
Jolidee says Mashaba must not run the city like one of his businesses. He further says that the city must not be run on relationships.
