[LISTEN] I'm cutting out the middleman - Herman Mashaba

City of Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, is adamant there is no conflict of interest by asking his friend to help the city with a financial model.

Mashaba has come under scrutiny from the ANC in Gauteng saying he contracted his wife Connie Mashaba's company, Lephatsi Financial Services, to help with the in-sourcing of security for the city.

About a month ago in a mayoral committee meeting after rejecting the third report from officials because I could see these people were not interested; they were telling me that this exercise is not going to work; it's going to cost the company a lot of money than you are paying us, this is nonsense.

Speaking to Eusebius Mckasier, Mashaba said Lephatsi does not do business with the city of Johannesburg. He said he has worked with his friend for over ten years and he is doing this service for free.
