13 Esidimeni patients found, 49 still missing

The Gauteng police have located 13 of the 62 missing Esidimeni patients.

DA Gauteng shadow MEC for health Jack Bloom says the police are giving him weekly reports into the search for the missing patients.

At least 144 people died when the Gauteng department of health terminated its contract with Esidimeni and moved them to ill-equipped NGOs.

Some of the patients don't have ID numbers from the list that I've got, and in a small number of cases they don't even have full names.

It is bizarre that at this stage we are still looking for lost patients. How could they get lost in the system?

Bloom says the department of health should start a mass campaign to find the missing patients. He suggests that the department issues pictures of those not yet accounted for because they could have ended up as homeless people seen on the streets.
