[LISTEN] Manhunt launched in EC after five cops killed

A manhunt is underway in the Eastern Cape following the killing of five police officers in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A group of suspects entered the police station in Ngcobo and opened fire, gunning down three police officers.

The suspects then left the scene, taking two other officers and ammunition from the police station.

There were five official officers, three were killed on the spot and two were found along the road with gun shots.

Police spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says the motive for the attack is unknown, but they believe the suspects may have been after ammunition.

Police minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to visit both the station and the families of the deceased later today.
