[LISTEN] Creative parenting expert talks about the low muscle tone epidemic

In the parenting feature, creative parenting expert Nikki Bush chats about the low muscle tone epidemic, and the reasons why schools need to implement Physical Development classes into their daily curriculum.

Bush says that low muscle tone use to be that thing that a few children went to occupational therapy for but now the majority of children are coming in with low muscle tone.

What this means is that they are battling to hold their bodies up voluntarily in the classroom.

Children now are spending a lot of time engaging with the screen as opposed to children back then who would engage in physical activities says Bush. She adds that children are on screens more and moving less resulting in low muscle tone which is interfering with their ability to concentrate in the classroom.

Screens are not the problem, it’s the amount of time children are on them.
