Cianfanelli says that there are certain circles that know his name, and with the certain works he has done, its brought a lot of attention.

Things are changing all the time and in the last 5 or 6 years, it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve been doing a lot of work outside of South Africa and I sometimes wonder do people know what I am doing.

Cianfanelli says that in the South African art circles, people are looking at specific platforms to see what other people are doing. Cianfanelli admits that he has been doing a lot of work outside of that, and addresses the need to establish what it means to be an artist.

There’s the bigger question of what it means to be an artist? I think that all artists struggle to define that says Cianfanelli

If you look at people it feels like some artists have adopted the persona or the identity of an artist’s very comfortably - I never adopted it very comfortably.
