Former TV star speaks about abusive relationship in new book

She was TV's golden girl during the nineties, waking up the country with the morning news on radio and television.

But Tracy Going's life changed the day she met the man she would later accuse of having beaten her at her home in Johannesburg.

Now, more than 20 years later, Going has bravely detailed the abuse in her memoir, Brutal Legacy.

I wanted to document how easy it was to become involved in a relationship like this. To become ensnared.

Tracy Going, Author

Following the abuse, which left Going needing medical attention, she decided to press charges against her perpetrator.

I was a victim and I was belittled in the courtroom. So I wanted to show how that process works. I would like magistrates to read the book and get an idea of what goes on in an abusive relationship.

Tracy Going, Author

Going launches the book at the Book Lounge in Cape Town on Feb 28, and will be in conversation with Cape Talk host Sara-Jayne King.
