[LISTEN] SACP on cabinet reshuffle: We can't agree on everything

President Cyril Ramaphosa reshuffled his cabinet late on Monday night, firing 10 ministers.

It is believed that Ramaphosa engaged the alliance on the reshuffle which was something they had complained about during former President Zuma's tenure.

SACP second deputy general secretary Solly Mapaila says they appreciate the efforts by President Ramaphosa to remove the "Gupta ministers".

We agree on the trust he has indicated and the commitment he has made as part of the mandate given to new ministers to the extent that they know if they do anything wrong they will be kicked out of cabinet.

Solly Mapaila, SACP deputy general secretary

President Ramaphosa has retained Minister Malusi Gigaba, Minister Bathabile Dlamini and Minister Nomvula Mokonyane despite calls for them to be removed which people where calling for them to be fired saying they have been compromised.

Mapaila says they are satisfied because he has brought back the Ministry of Finance and State Enterprises back from capture.

He has made about 10 changes and that's massive, particularly at the ministerial level and that's what we need to appreciate.

Solly Mapaila, SACP deputy general secretary

Fikile Mbalula has been replaced by former police minister Bheki Cele who was removed by then President Jacob Zuma. Mapaila says Cele was removed because of Gupta linked processes not because of his capabilities in that portfolio.

For Bheki Cele I think that's someone who South Africa has been calling for. They needed someone with that kind of capacity and I'm quite confident he will pull it together, he will pull the police behind him.
